Oceania, group of islands in the South Pacific Ocean. The 83 islands of Vanuatu stretch north-south from the Torres Islands near Santa Cruz in the Solomons to the Matthew and Hunter Islands east of New Caledonia. Divided into three island groups: the Torres and Banks Group, the Central Group and the Tafea islands.
